In the past week alone, I have found more than a dozen typos on everything from professional blogs to marketing resources to software sites -- and that's just online. We won't even delve into printed media.
As communications become more frequent and less formal, there's a tendency to throw thorough proofreading out the window. I know many people who don't even do a passing check on emails or posts anymore. They are ever so misguided, my friends.
Typos and careless grammatical errors send the message that you are careless. When you don't take the time to reread your communications or to comb through your online publications, you send the message that you also won't take the time to execute your mission with excellence. That doesn't breed a whole lot of confidance in your company now, does it?
Even in an informal setting, image matters. So take an extra minute or two to proofread your emails. And for heaven's sake, get a professional proofreader for any publication you put out. The extra money and confidence excellence brings in will more than pay for the service.
Now, there's one typo in this blog. Can you find it? Send me your comments and we'll see how good a proofreader you are.
