Get to the Heart of It

E-mail Print PDF

One of my colleagues and I were discussing how Web sites have evolved over the past decade. Ten years ago, it was enough to simply have a page. A Web site served much of the same purpose as a tri-fold brochure. Having an online presence said you were one of the "big guns." Content was almost irrelevant. And presentation was basic at best.

Ah, the good old days.

Today, an excellent presentation is expected. Anything less breeds a sense of incompetence. Nevermind that you had enough foresight to get online. If you aren't top notch, not only will you not attract the right audience, you'll actually repel your potential clients or donors.

But it gets even more complicated. If you want to make an impression these days, you have to do more than just show up. You have to get to the heart of it. You have to offer relevant, meaningful, quality content to your visitors.

Spend time and money on developing the right content for your Web site. In love, a pretty face is nice, but the heart is what matters. Your Web site is no different.
